The season finale of the California Windsurf Cup will take place from 27 to 30 August in Pelzerhaken in the Bay of Lübeck. The venue is very safe and ideal for those new to regattas. In conjunction with the GWA’s Annual General Meeting on Sylt, a special initiative was therefore agreed: every registered California Windsurf Cup competitor may bring a friend along to take part free of charge. The initiative is called ‘Bring your Buddy’ and aims to introduce new participants to the competition scene. The organisers are counting on experienced participants to invite their friends and acquaintances from their personal circles to the regatta. Many talented windsurfers have so far shied away from entering competitions, even though they possess sufficient riding skills.
Simplified registration with no fees
The event is completely free of financial and organisational barriers. Friends who come along do not have to pay any registration fees or late registration fees. Club membership is not required, nor is membership of the GWA. Registration is by email to event@choppywater.de. Participants simply need to provide their buddy’s name so that they can be added to the list of attendees. The organisers have deliberately kept the process simple so that they can welcome as many new faces as possible to the event. The concept was developed during the GWA’s Annual General Meeting in collaboration with all participants and implemented straight away for Pelzerhaken.
Season finale in Lübeck Bay
Pelzerhaken marks the end of this year’s Windsurf Cup season. The venue in Lübeck Bay offers consistent wind conditions and a manageable sailing area. This makes the spot particularly attractive for windsurfers looking to gain their first competitive experience. The event runs over four days, allowing plenty of time for several races. Alongside the sporting aspects, the focus is on the sense of community. Experienced participants can introduce their friends to the procedures and nuances of regattas right there on site.
