Full programme: Waveriders will also be competing at the Windsurf Cup on Sylt!
The California Windsurf Cup starts today with its first tour stop in Westerland on Sylt. A wave alert has been issued for Friday, so you can hit the waves on Sunday too!

This Thursday sees the start of the first tour stop of the California Windsurf Cup in Westerland on Sylt. The highest German windsurfing series will be making a guest appearance on the North Sea island over the Whitsun weekend, with the Fin Slalom, Foiling and Wave disciplines on the programme. The forecast promises plenty of wind, which is why a wave alert has already been issued today for tomorrow, Friday!

"All waver are hereby invited to the California Summer Opening at Brandenburger Strand," reads a statement from organiser Choppy Water. The registration for the waver is planned for 10:00 to 11:00 am. The skippers meeting is scheduled for 11.30 am. The earliest possible start is at 12:00 noon. "Due to the current wind forecasts, a warning (not yet an official alarm) will also be issued in parallel for Sunday 8 June. It is possible that the Wave discipline will be held twice as part of the Summer Opening!". The organisers would like to point out the possibility of travel support and discounted train tickets for the riders.

Langer vs. Poggemann and Co.

The main discipline in the DWC is traditionally racing. Multiple world, European and German champion Vincent Langer is the top favourite at the start. Langer currently leads the annual rankings and has already won the ProAm Windsurf Cup on Lake Garda in the foiling discipline. He faces strong competition from Lars Poggemann, among others, who recently finished 13th on the PWA World Tour in Guadeloupe.

There is also a focus on young talent. With the "LVM Youngster Trophy", a special prize has been created especially for up-and-coming riders. Promising youngsters such as Paul Regber, Jesper-Mo Thomsen and Mika Henning have the chance to place in the top 10 and gain important experience.

Yoga, parties and more

In addition to the sporting competitions, visitors can expect an extensive supporting programme. Sponsors, market stalls and catering stands will be set up along almost 500 metres of the promenade on Brandenburg beach. For active holidaymakers, LVM Versicherung will be offering free daily yoga classes on the beach. At the weekends, DJ Mozart, Tom Sass & Reto and DJ Bvillage will provide a party atmosphere on the promenade with live sets. Admission to the Summer Opening Sylt and all parties is free of charge.
