Since leaving Naish, Ricardo Campello has been without an equipment sponsor. Last season, he competed in Pozo and Tenerife with the support of star DJ Martin Garrix. In recent months, Campello has been posting mysterious pictures of previously unknown sails from time to time, and now he has unveiled his first prototype in a short reel on Instagram.
The four-batten sail bears the - apparently still provisional - name "Slayer", is heavily reinforced and features an implied "C" logo. Ricardo writes: "A couple of weeks ago I got my first ever Campello Sails prototype ! It’s just a fun project I’m doing to see where it will take us!"
He is apparently happy with the first sail, although there are still changes to be made: "Battens still need to be different and some other details as it’s a new factory for windsurfing sails so this is their first wave sail they built! Colors and graphics are also not final!!" So far Campello has only been able to test his new model on flat water, the first test in the waves is still pending.
Whether the Campello Sails Slayer will remain a one-off or whether Campello will really launch its own sail brand has apparently not yet been decided. But Ricardo is already asking his fans: "If I start this project, what should I call the first wave model?"
