The short wind window around midday at the World Cup Sylt was optimally utilised to record two more foil results - Matteo Iachino and Johan Søe each took another victory, with the Dane continuing to lead the field.

The Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2025 kicked off with a finale: on the fifth day, there was a short wind phase around midday - just in time for the visit of Schleswig-Holstein's Minister President Daniel Günther, who came to watch the event. "I can see that our funding is being put to good use here," said Günther during the interview on stage. MMP boss Christian Okon spoke of Sylt as the "Wimbledon of windsurfing".

After that, the focus was on sport: after the third foil elimination had to be cancelled on MondayThe two final heats started straight away. Fabian Wolf, who had made a top start to the event with third and fourth place, did damage limitation in the small final and won his heat, which still earned him ninth place after his disappointing exit in the semi-final. Matteo Iachino then took his second win in a row in the grand final - with a big lead over Johan Søe. "Jordy had a better start, but I had a bigger sail with 9.0 and was faster. Then I played it safe to bring it home," reported Iachino on the beach afterwards. "I honestly didn't look behind much."

Fabian Wolf in bad luck - damage to the foil

Then it was straight into the fourth elimination, which brought the first string and shook up the ranking accordingly. Nico Prien overcame his previous Sylt curse and advanced to the semi-finals. John Soukos' performance was also remarkable, as he made it into an A final for the first time with a win and a third place. Unfortunately, Nico was only able to make it to the small final after a false start, where he finished seventh. Things didn't go perfectly for Fabi Wolf either: after a good first-round heat, he exploded in a large cloud of spray shortly after the start in the semi-final and was unable to finish the heat. "A tip on my front wing broke off," he said afterwards on the beach.

In the grand final, it was once again Johan Søe who led from the start. Just like Iachino, "The Beast" had won all previous heats and once again showed just how fast he is. "What is most important - starts, gybes or speed?" he was asked afterwards. "Starts, jibes and speed!" he replied as cool as ever. Matteo Iachino, on the other hand, struggled more than expected in fifth place, while Maciek Rutkowski achieved his best result to date on Sylt with second place.

A fifth elimination was then due to be started, but the wind blew out shortly before the start. Johan Søe extends his lead in the event classification, Matteo Iachino is able to maintain second place, but Maciek Rutkowski is closing in on the world championship leader. Fabian Wolf slips down to sixth place. Tomorrow looks good for more slalom action, but on Friday and Saturday the freestylers and wave riders will probably take priority. This leaves the others with few chances of challenging Johan Søe for his second Sylt victory in a row.
