After a long wait, two slalom winners were crowned on the first official day of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt. Particularly strong: Fabian Wolf was consistently among the front runners!

There were two exciting slalom eliminations to watch today at the World Cup on Sylt - or not to watch, because to the incomprehension of many fans, there will not be a livestream until Monday. This came as a surprise not only to the windsurfing community, but people involved in the livestream only found out in the morning that there would be no broadcast today. The response on Instagram and Facebook was correspondingly strong, and the lack of understanding that the most important showcase and presentation platform for the sport was being cut at the biggest windsurfing event in the world was huge. There will be a full recording of the races later this evening, which is little consolation and by no means an adequate substitute.

Those who were lucky enough to be there at Brandenburger Strand were able to watch two rounds in the late afternoon after having to wait a long time for the wind to stabilise. Balz Müller and Steven van Broeckhoven tricked a little on their foils, but there were too many wind holes and shifts for official slalom races. Lennart Neubauer even tried it on the fin, but had to be collected by boat from the open North Sea.

Fabian Wolf consistently in the lead

Once the race got underway, the top favourites left nothing to chance and met in the grand final without any major surprises. Only Nico Prien was eliminated in the first heat - but Fabian Wolf confidently made it into the top eight. He then got off to a very good start, entered the first jibe in third place and did not relinquish this position until the finish. As a result, the man from Kiel left world championship leader Matteo Iachino and defending champion Pierre Mortefon behind him - strong!

In first place was the rider who seemed almost unbeatable last year on Sylt: Johan Søe seamlessly continued his performance from 2024 despite his trip to the iQFOiL and won all his heats with a huge lead. He was followed by Maciek Rutkowski in second place, who has clearly recovered well from his Baltic Sea crossing.

Iachino and Søe in a thrilling duel

The second elimination then started a little later because the wind weakened again in the meantime. Here too, almost all of the favourites made it through with ease, but this time Nico Prien had to come ashore again after just one heat. Alexandre Cousin, who had come to Sylt in third place, was also eliminated early on.

The final then initially seemed like a repeat of Elimination 1, except that Iachino was in the top 2, while Rutkowski dropped back a little. But the Italian made life difficult for Johan Søe, and the Dane's speed on the long straights was not enough to catch the world championship leader. Fabian Wolf was again strong in third place for a long time, but was then overtaken by Pierre Mortefon on the home straight. Nevertheless, it was a perfect start for Wolf, who is currently tied on points with Mortefon in third place.

The forecast for tomorrow is for easterly winds again, unfortunately a little weaker than today - so fingers crossed!
