The freestylers were out and about well offshore yesterday; the offshore easterly wind only became strong and steady enough for good heats a few hundred metres from Brandenburger Strand. Although the drones – which filmed the action for the judges and transmitted it to the judging container – had to return to shore regularly to change their batteries, the results are in, apart from the last three heats. Unfortunately, there was no live stream, but the best moves can now be seen in the PWA’s highlights video.
Lennart Neubauer has once again made his mark on the freestyle contest. He was the first out on the water to show that the conditions were good enough, he scored the highest marks of the day, he showcased a new combination of moves – and, following Yentel Caers’ early exit, he is now on course for the World Championships.
Lennart’s semi-final against Balz Müller is still to come, whilst Dieter van der Eyken has already reached the final following his victory over Takumi Moriya. There’s a good chance that at least the last three heats of the single-elimination tournament can still be completed on Tuesday or Wednesday.
