This Friday, the time has finally come: the Citroën Windsurf World Cup kicks off on Sylt, and for nine days the island will be the centre of the windsurfing world. Of course, surf will be there live again this year, teaming up with BLACKROLL in a marquee on the Nordpromenade at Brandenburger Strand. There, you can not only pop by for a chat with the editorial team, but also try out the latest products and all-time favourites from the BLACKROLL range. As well as the classic foam rollers, the team are also bringing along a range of recovery products designed to aid sleep – from pillows to mattresses, you can try everything out on site and get some expert advice. And if your legs are tired from trudging through the sand, you can recharge your batteries in the Recovery Boots. BLACKROLL will also be bringing its new “Shiftwave” system to Sylt, complete with a zero-gravity lounger. For nine days, the surf and BLACKROLL tent will be the go-to spot for riders such as team rider Lennart Neubauer, legends and anyone who fancies a chat about windsurfing; the JAKLAR crew will also be based here during the World Cup.
Their joint appearance at the World Cup on Sylt has a long history: BLACKROLL founder Marius Keckeisen used to compete in the German Windsurfing Cup, accompanied, of course, by surf magazine. As a young rookie without a driving licence, Marius needed a way to get from Lake Constance to the events up north. His mate Harry Goeft, also a windsurfing fanatic and a few years older, would drive him there – two friends, with windsurfing on their minds and shared moments on Sylt. Marius stayed connected to the sport, wrote a few travel stories for *surf* and built up BLACKROLL. Harry developed with JAKLAR his own world amongst athletes, events and the community. On the Surf Festival in May Marius was there again with his team, and had brought along Lennart Neubauer, his top windsurfer. Their joint appearance on Sylt is now the next chapter – perhaps culminating in a World Championship party for Lennart Neubauer.
Back in 2018 and 2019, Harry Goeft and the “JaKlärzten” had already provided medical support for the World Cup competitors, with support from BLACKROLL even back then. Since then, the team from Surfmedizin e.V. with Dr Thomas Gangl in the paddock, focusing on the treatment of injuries and prevention, also using BLACKROLL products. “We always want to put the athletes at the centre of everything, because they’re the ones who convey the emotions,” says Harry.
