German success in Klitmøller: Anton Richter came out on top in the Wave A division at the Danish Open, beating Simon Thule and Mads Bjørnå. There was also a German podium finish in the freestyle event at Krik Vig, courtesy of Arne Jörn.
From 15 to 18 October, Cold Hawaii showed its stormy side. With strong winds and substantial North Sea waves, the competitors at the Danish Open Wave and Freestyle Championship put on thrilling showdowns at two different spots.
As early as Thursday, a steady south-westerly wind set the stage for a competition marathon lasting around nine hours. In Klitmøller, the programme featured powerful turns, high aerials and spectacular jumps. Following a lay day on Friday, the Double Elimination came to a head on Saturday.
In the top-flight Wave A category, the German Anton Richter continued his fine form and won ahead of Simon Thule and Mads Bjørnå. Richter also triumphed in the junior category. In the Masters category, Mads Bjørnå took the win ahead of Martin Ten Hoeve and Lars Gobisch.
It was much the same story for the women as they got down to business in the waves at Cold Hawaii. Line Wittrup secured victory in the wave category, ahead of Trine Gobisch in second place. Helena Søgaard rounded off the podium in third place.
At the same time, the freestylers made use of the calm waters of the fjord near Krik Vig for their heats. With Arne Jörn A German rider also made it onto the podium there, rounding off the German participants’ successful performance in Cold Hawaii.
