Fabi Wolf continues to be in a league of his own in the foiling event at the German Championships on Sylt. On the third day, he won six out of seven foiling races and leads the standings by a comfortable margin.
On day three of the California Surf Cup Sylt, the long-awaited wind finally arrived. This meant that a total of seven races could be held in the foiling discipline as part of the German Windsurfing Championships. Fabi Wolf (GER-404) from Kiel won six of these races. The Dutchman Sem Stroosma (NED-450) won one race.
With the race on day two now complete, a total of eight races have been completed. For the overall event standings, each competitor’s three worst results are discarded. As a result, after three days of racing, Fabi Wolf leads the California Surf Cup Sylt standings with a perfect score of 3.50. Wolf’s performance leading up to Sylt has been so dominant that he can currently even afford the luxury of discarding two first-place finishes and one second-place finish. This means the newly crowned European runner-up in foiling can afford quite a few slip-ups in the ongoing battle for the German Championship title.
Currently in second place is the Dutchman Sem Stroosma. He is the only one who has managed to beat Wolf in a race. Apart from a sixth and a third place, he has consistently finished second in every other race. This means Stroosma can even discard a second-place finish and, with 8.70 points, has excellent prospects of securing a podium place at the awards ceremony for the International German Championship on Sunday.
Vincent Langer (GER-1), a multiple German, European and world champion, actually focuses primarily on the fin slalom discipline. However, at the California Surf Cup Sylt, he has now also put in a strong performance in foiling. He has scored points with second and third places, putting him in third place in the event standings after day three with 13 points.
Meno Büchler (GER-91) has focused primarily on the IDM on Sylt as a standalone event this season. With 22 points to his name, the racer – who is a student in Bremen – has narrowly missed out on the podium, but his fourth place is still an outstanding result.
Jesse Richter (GER-180) and Lars Poggemann (GER-730) are locked in a thrilling battle for fifth place. After day three, both are level on 24.0 points, neck and neck. In the tie-break, however, Jesse Richter has a narrow lead and has pushed Poggemann out of the top five.
As well as windsurfing, there are plenty of other highlights to discover along the promenade in Westerland. Stretching over 400 metres, the event features countless stalls, partner displays and food outlets, inviting visitors to have a look, get involved and enjoy a feast. The California Surf Cup Sylt runs until Sunday 2 August at Brandenburger Strand. The German windsurfing champions will then be honoured on stage at 5.00 pm.
