In April, Heidi Ulrich and Vincent Valkenaers won the Prince of Speed in La Palme and became the new world champions in speed windsurfing. At the end of the first section of the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge, the global GPS competition, the pair are also in the lead. Melek Toraman, German speed champion, took third place in the women's ranking and even won the Grand Masters (51-60 years old). Thomas Moldenhauer took second place in the Super Masters category (61 to 70 years old).
In addition to the speed spot in La Palme, many of the top speeds were achieved on the Grevelingenmeer or in Den Helder in the Netherlands. Other spots were Veddelev in Denmark, Portland Harbour in Weymouth and West Kirby
Scotty Stallman won the Open Foil category, while Alessandro Tomasi was the fastest wingfoiler. The Junior category was won by Brendan Lorho (15-18) and John John Vanderick (11-14). The special classification for the speeds posted in the Waterspeed app is new. The winner there was the German Florian Seitz, who also achieved his best speed of 37.99 knots (70.36 km/h) in La Palme. Nadine Zidek also achieved a value of 23.93 knots on Lake Garda, which put her in second place in the women's foil classification.
The next stage of the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge runs from 1 July to 31 August.
