In the end, the sheltered fjord in Thisted was the racing venue for the season opener of the still fresh European Pro Windsurfing Tour. Although the impressive setup was located in Hanstholm, the actual event spot, the only attempt to start on the North Sea on Saturday had to be cancelled due to the shore break. Bob van de Burgt was the only one to make it to the start line. The other riders in Heat 1 had material breakage here and there, and the rest of the field were happy not to have to be the first out on the edgy reef.
On the Limfjord in Thisted, on the other hand, there were exciting and sometimes highly dramatic foil races to watch on the other event days. The spectacular shock moment on day 2 was the violent crash between Hugo Sjöberg and Brendan Lorho. The Swede lost control at full speed and Lorho behind him was unable to get out of the way. Once the spray and the flying carbon fibre parts had subsided, the all-clear was quickly given: Neither of them was injured, only the material was ruined. "I wanted too much, I was on the big material, then a gust came and the front wing came out of the water," said Sjöberg afterwards. After the Swede had been in third place for a while, he then slipped down to eleventh place at the end.
After the unsuccessful attempt in Hanstholm, the organisers around Finn Noer were able to complete four full eliminations on Sunday, this time again on the fjord near Thisted. While Johan "The Beast" Søe rode outstandingly at the front and took the win unchallenged, an exciting battle for second to fifth place unfolded behind him. Fabian Wolf benefited from the mistakes of his rivals: Dutch rider Sem Stroosma crashed "for no reason", Noah Vinther also crashed and had to let Fabian Wolf pass him, who was delighted with second place. The overjoyed Greek rider John Soujkos squeezed into third place with a lead of just 0.3 points. "They were dropping like flies in front of me," said Soukos after the final run. There were some remarkable talents to be discovered behind the top athletes: Peyton Dits from the Netherlands, just 15 years old, finished in ninth place, Christina Larsen from Denmark held her own in the men's field in 19th place, while Lars Poggemann fell a little short of his hopes in 13th place.
