Every new competition format in windsurfing is always welcome - and the new European Pro Windsurfing Tour was able to draw on the full potential at its debut in Denmark. Livestream with Ben Proffitt, drone images and result overlays, photos by John Carter, a top infrastructure on site, LED screen - the new format was in almost no way inferior to the PWA. Shortly before the event, prize money was even announced for the top five in the rankings - something even many national series can't manage. Many local sponsors support the event and want to push the format.
The conditions in Ebeltoft near Aarhus were ideal: storm and survival mode on Friday, sun and perfect foil conditions at the weekend, plus a few top riders from the World Cup. First and foremost Johan "The Beast" Søe, who once again seemed almost unbeatable after his victory at the IFAC European Championship in Alacati. At times you got the impression that Søe didn't really care about the start, he seemed certain that he would overtake the other riders on the course anyway.
Michele Becker was in second place at the start, but had to pull out early to recover from ankle problems in time for the World Cup on Sylt. His place was taken by Fabian Wolf, who proved his class with a strong performance. "I'm very happy with my performance and I'm already looking forward to next year's EPWT Tour," Wolf wrote on Instagram. Noah Vinther came in third behind him, followed by Cyril Evrard and Lars Poggemann.
Co-initiator Fin Noer and his team want to organise a complete tour in 2025, with the opening event in Ebeltoft as a kind of qualifier. The idea: foil only, but with no limits on (series) material. This should make it possible to start races in almost all conditions. You can find out exactly what the plans are and how the EPWT got off to such a brilliant start in an interview with fin here on surf-magazin.de in the next few days!
