Denmark's windsurfing veteran Finn Noer can not only develop ingenious extensions, but also organise big events. For the premiere of the new European Pro Windsurfing Tour, he has not only lured numerous top pros to Ebeltoft near Aarhus, but has also organised a live stream. Even PWA voice Ben Proffitt will be there to commentate on the races.
The European Pro Windsurfing Tour focuses entirely on foil slalom, and riders are allowed to use unlimited series material. Weight waistcoats are also permitted so that lighter starters are not at a disadvantage. The organisers' idea is to be able to race in all conditions and not have to cancel any runs. There are to be more events in 2025 and then it will also become a proper "tour".
The event has been postponed in advance so that it does not clash with the IFCA European Championship in Alacati. It starts today and six eliminations can be ridden over four days until Sunday. Prize money was also announced at short notice: the winner can look forward to 2500 euros, while fifth place will receive 850 euros.
And they could be quite something, as the forecast is predicting a violent storm with winds of well over 40 knots, especially on Friday. There could also be almost 30 knots at the start today, while the weekend promises comparatively leisurely foil conditions with around 20 knots.
Visitors can follow the races on a large LED screen on site at Ebeltoft Surf Club. Among the starters are two Danish tip riders, Johan Soe and Noah Vinther, both of whom have just finished on the podium at the IFCA European Championships. European vice-champion Michele Becker will also be there, as will Fabian Wolf, Lars Poggemann, Michel Gutbier and Michael Brozio. The two Dutchmen Bob van de Burgt and Koen Hessels are also always good for a top placing.
By the way: If you are interested in the event spot in Ebeltoft, you can look forward to the upcoming surf issue 10/2024 - in which we will present the best windsurfing spots in the Djursland region!
