Fabian Wolf took a dominant victory at the Formula Foil World Championship on Lake Garda. 12 victories in 18 races secured him the title, while Spaniard Fernando Martinez del Cerro won the Masters classification.

Fabian Wolf has won the Formula Foil World Championship title with impressive dominance. Wolf won twelve out of 18 races at the World Championships organised by Circolo Surf Torbole under the auspices of the Italian Sailing Federation, finishing with a lead of almost 30 points over the competition. The World Championships, which initially began with unsettled wind and weather conditions, benefited from perfect conditions from Thursday onwards, when the Ora wind typical of Lake Garda provided ideal racing conditions with 12 to 16 knots.

World Championship silver despite crash for Theo Peter - Frederic Ramsgaard equal on points

While the gold medal was never really in danger, there was a thrilling duel for second place. Austria's Theo Peter and Denmark's Frederic Ramsgaard finished the World Championships level on points with 41 points each. Peter, who was involved in a collision on the last day of the competition and received a blow to the face, had to sit out the following two runs. Due to a decision by the jury, he was awarded average points as compensation, which ultimately secured him the silver medal. Ramsgaard put in a strong performance on the final day with one win and two second places, but this was not enough to overtake the Austrian in the overall standings.

Spaniard Fernando Martinez del Cerro took fourth place in the overall standings and also secured the world championship title in the masters classification. The two Poles Pawel Dittrich and Bartolomiej Kwiek followed in second and third place in the Masters classification. Martinez del Cerro performed consistently throughout the week, confirming his reputation as one of the most consistent participants in the competition.

The other German starters were Robert Bircheneder in 16th place and Levi Sümmchen in 26th place.

Challenging conditions and organisation

The world championship, in which sailors from 13 nations took part, was not only a challenge in sporting terms, but also in terms of organisation. The jury had their hands full with protests and collisions, some of which resulted in damage to the boards. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries to the athletes. Together with the race committee of the Italian Sailing Federation, the organisers managed to make optimum use of the available wind windows.
