Picture-perfect conditions at the Junior World Cup in Cold Hawaii: a decent gale force low caused winds of up to 40 knots and plenty of waves at the fish factory. The fact that the autumn sun sometimes made an appearance was almost too much of a good thing.
After Pozo, the PWA youngsters met on the water for the second time this year. Liam Dunkerbeck was once again in a league of his own, claiming victory and the Junior World Championship title in the U20 boys' category. With massive jumps and radical wave rides, he showed what DNA is in him - no genetic test necessary. Nick Spangenberg came third behind the Italian Samuele Ferraro.
Local Tobias Bjørnå came out on top in the U17 classification. For a long time it looked like Anton Richter from Kiel would win, but the Dane finally prevailed in the super final after the double elimination. Luca Buhler finished in third place.
Peter Gobisch won the U15 boys' event after two super finals against Arthur van den Brande. Just like the U20 women, this class was held on the only day of the week with slightly less wind, so good tactics were essential. The women's U20 class is firmly in Spanish hands, with Maria Morales Navarro winning ahead of Isabel Trivino Delgado. Third place went to the Belgian Sol de Griek, who surprisingly defeated Lina Erpenstein in Pozo. She also showed outstanding aerials again before Hanstholm.
This video on Instagram gives an impression of how spectacular the conditions were. By the way, the surf test team was also on site to test the 2023 waveboards. You can find out the results in the 11/12 issue!
