The World Cup in Pozo is not only one of the most legendary events on the tour, but also one of the oldest. Even in years with only a few contests, Gran Canaria was always a favourite, and it was not uncommon for the foundations to be laid here for the later World Cup decision. We've rummaged through the archives and picked out a few older Pozo pictures to show you in the gallery above!
Pozo is rough and pretty much the opposite of an idyllic dream beach. It is the ultimate challenge for every rider - nowhere else on the tour is the wind so strong, nowhere else are the conditions so consistently rough. This year could start with a big bang: The forecasts for Saturday and Sunday look very good!
Until then, you can reminisce in the gallery above - the riders younger, the board and sail designs older (and sometimes strange, in retrospect)!
