For some, it's the time when people and equipment take a well-earned break, for others it's the most exciting and active time of year - winter! In the winter of 2024/25, a number of storms roared across Europe once again - most of them moved in over the North Atlantic, while others shovelled icy air from the north-east onto the Baltic coast. In the Alps and shortly before, the winter shores were able to conquer some Föhn storms in mild (air) temperatures.
In the winter of 2024/2025, storms "Darragh" and "Herminia" made the headlines in Europe. "Darragh" was an exceptionally strong winter storm that caused major damage at the end of November, particularly in Ireland and the UK. With wind speeds of over 150 km/h, it brought heavy rain and strong gusts. In Brittany, it caused epic conditions at a French wave contest, while the picture of Jules Denel and his violent exit was taken in Wissant.
"Herminia" passed over Central Europe almost two months later. With strong gusts of wind and heavy snowfall, it caused chaotic conditions on the roads and in rail transport. There were numerous accidents and traffic disruptions. The masses of snow also led to power cuts and disruption to the infrastructure. Once again, many top windsurfers were out on the water, including in the Netherlands.
