The season finale of the California Windsurf Cup started yesterday in Heiligenhafen. However, there was not enough wind for official competitions on the opening day. Although the foilers were sent out onto the water in three force winds, unfortunately the wind then dropped so that the first race had to be cancelled. The forecast for Friday looks much more promising.
"Heiligenhafen offers optimal windsurfing conditions. The spot at the Drachenwiese works in all wind directions. And the conditions on land are ideal for a tour stop of the California Windsurf Cup. That's why we're delighted to be back in the Baltic seaside resort for the season finale," explains Matthias Regber from Choppy Water GmbH, which organises the California Windsurf Cup. With 40 participants, the final in Heiligenhafen is one of the most popular tour stops in the DWC.
Keno Recke, Meno Büchler and Tjalve Böttger are the top favourites in the foiling discipline. In the Fin Slalom, veteran Oliver Schott and youngster Mika Henning are also contenders for top placings. However, numerous up-and-coming racers are also hoping to give the established top racers a run for their money on the home straight. Top riders such as Vincent Langer, Fabian Wolf, Lars Poggemann and Michele Becker, who is currently on a break, will not be competing in Heiligenhafen.
The final in Heiligenhafen offers a special highlight, especially for the young riders: at the GWA Youth & Junior Championship, the champions in the age groups Youth U21, Youth U19 and Junior U17 will be crowned.
The California Windsurf Cup is being held in the Baltic seaside resort of Heiligenhafen until Sunday. On all three evenings, there will be a music programme and party on the stage on the Drachenwiese, as well as yoga sessions and much more. This means that participants and visitors will also be offered an attractive programme away from the sporting action.
