There were two exciting fin eliminations at the start of the German Windsurf Cup on Sylt. Vincent Langer and Anton Richter are tied at the top. Wave action in seven-force winds is expected on Friday.

Two complete fin slalom eliminations were held in four to five force winds on Thursday at the start of the German Windsurf Cup on Sylt. A duel between the multiple German, world and European champion Vincent Langer and the youngster Anton Richter crystallised.

Anton Richter showed his skills in the opening elimination. Although Vincent Langer was initially in the lead, Richter skilfully took advantage of a wave at the penultimate buoy and overtook his rival. He did not relinquish this position until the finish and thus secured victory in the first race. This success was particularly valuable, as the first elimination in every Windsurf Cup is endowed with prize money of 1,000 euros for the top 3 as the "LVM Insurance Grand Prix". Richter received 500 euros as the winner, while Langer was able to look forward to 300 euros as the runner-up. Tjorve Studt from Flensburg completed the podium and secured 200 euros in prize money.

Langer strikes back in second elimination

The second elimination of the day was another thrilling duel between Langer and Richter. As before, Langer initially led the field before Richter passed him at the third buoy. This time, however, Langer was able to counterattack and fought his way closer and closer on the home straight. In a dramatic photo finish, Langer prevailed by a wafer-thin margin and secured victory in the second elimination. Behind the leading duo, father and son Schott fought an exciting duel for third place, which Justus Schott won.

After the two eliminations, Vincent Langer and Anton Richter are tied at the top of the table with 2.0 points each. Langer can only take the lead for the time being due to the tie-break rule. Tjorve Studt is in third place with a consistently strong performance and 8.0 points. Justus and Oliver Schott are tied in fourth and fifth place with 9.0 points each, with the son coming out on top against his father in a direct comparison.
