A great start to the California Windsurf Cup in St. Peter-Ording: enough wind and six fin eliminations! Vincent Langer won five times, with Fabian Wolf hot on his heels.

The California Windsurf Cup started its third event in St. Peter-Ording yesterday. With wind forces of around five Beaufort from the west, six races were held in the Fin Slalom discipline on the first day of the competition. Vincent Langer dominated the action with five race wins. The multiple German, world and European champion thus took the lead in the field of participants. The starting field on the North Sea was not only made up of German sailors, but also included several international participants from Switzerland, the Netherlands and Denmark.

Vincent Langer left no doubt about his superiority right from the start. Langer came out on top in the very first race, which was organised as the LVM Versicherung Grand Prix and came with a total prize money of 1,000 euros. He was followed by Fabian Wolf and Leo Richter. Langer continued his winning streak in the following races. With consistently strong performances and tactical skilfulness, he was able to prevail in five out of six races. Thanks to the cancellation result, which comes into effect after three races, Langer achieved the perfect score of 0.0 and thus secured the day's victory ahead of time.

Fabian Wolf strong in second position

Behind the dominant Vincent Langer, there was an exciting battle for the other podium places. Fabian Wolf also sailed very consistently and took second place in all six races. With 8.0 points after a strike result, he secured second place in the daily standings. Leo Richter, Keno Recke and Jonne Heimann fought a close duel for third place. At the end of the first day of the competition, Leo Richter came out on top with 9.0 points, just ahead of his rivals, and took third place in the results list.

Lighter winds and sunny weather are expected for the second day of competition. If official competitions are possible, the foilers could be used; in addition to the windsurfing races, Wingfoil Masters are also scheduled in SPO. The first possible start is scheduled for 11.30 am. Regardless of the wind conditions, the varied supporting programme will continue in the Event Village. A highlight of the entertainment programme will be the open air beach concert with Ottolien and King Kong Kicks on Friday evening. Admission to all California Windsurf Cup events and parties is free of charge.
