The first day of the California Windsurf Cup Pelzerhaken saw six full elimination rounds take place in winds of force three to five and sunshine. The fin slalom competitors completed three races before, in the afternoon as the wind died down, the foilers also held three races. The first race of each event is the LVM Versicherung Grand Prix, with a total prize fund of 1,000 euros; yesterday, Olli Schott came out on top in this race and pocketed 500 euros. Leo Richter finished second and received 300 euros, whilst Colin Stutzke completed the podium and won 200 euros. The Final round of Germany’s top windsurfing series It runs until Sunday in the Baltic seaside resort of Pelzerhaken.
Schott scores full marks in the Fin Slalom
Olli Schott prepared perfectly for the conditions and won two Finn class heats. With a perfect score of 1.40 points – thanks to a discard after the first day – he leads the Finn Slalom standings. Leo Richter follows in second place with one win and one second-place finish. Colin Stutzke is in third place. Keno Recke and Tim Wunderlich round off the top five in the strong-wind discipline of the California Windsurf Cup.
Gidrius Liutkus, from Lithuania, dominated the foiling discipline this afternoon. He won all three heats and leads the standings with a perfect score of 1.40 points. Keno Recke finished third twice, but missed out on a place in the A final on one occasion. With 6.00 points, he nevertheless occupies second place ahead of Denmark’s Gustav Permin, who lies in third place with a fifth and a second place. The youngsters Mika Henning and Paul Regber round off the top five in foiling.
Spectacular conditions are expected this weekend
The forecast for Friday suggests mixed conditions. However, the forecast for the weekend promises spectacular conditions with a south-westerly wind blowing diagonally onshore and wind speeds of force 5 to 7. As well as the competitions, the California Windsurf Cup offers an extensive programme of supporting events.
