Shamana Seeger has launched an appeal for donations on the well-known and reputable platform "gofundme". Here is her request:
Hi, I'm Shamana Seeger,
I was born and raised on Maui and am currently collecting donations for my father Robby Seeger and my little brother because our family is going through some really tough times. My father moved to Maui from Germany when he was only 16 years old after falling in love with the ocean and water sports. He became a two-time windsurfing world champion, was inducted into the Windsurfing Hall of Fame and founded Epic Swim Maui. Recently, my father was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, which led to heart failure. The doctors realised that fluid was building up in his lungs and his life was in danger. He now requires urgent cardiac ablation, a procedure estimated to cost between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars. Due to his medical condition, he is currently unable to work and the medical costs are overwhelming. While we were still trying to process this news, our family received another devastating phone call. My younger brother was involved in a near fatal motorbike accident with his friend. A lorry travelling at high speed on the Maʻalaea Highway forced them both off the road. Both motorbikes were completely destroyed and both boys suffered serious injuries. My brother was hospitalised and will be confined to a wheelchair for a long time. During his recovery, he will need round-the-clock care, medical support and a disability-friendly flat. My father has always been my inspiration - my lighthouse - especially now that I am finding my own way in the sea and in water sports. I want to do everything I can to help my father and brother recover and recuperate in this impossible situation. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Every donation, every sharing and every prayer really means a lot to our family and helps us to recover and move forward.
With gratitude Shamana
