The wave at O2 Surftown quickly weeds out the truly talented surfers.
On 12 September 2026, the European final of the GromSearch will take place at o2 Surftown. Young surfers from Italy, Spain, the UK, Portugal and France will compete in the U12, U14 and U16 age groups. Great action is guaranteed. Citroën will be showcasing its small electric car for young people aged 15 and over – the Ami Rip Curl Edition – and will even be offering test drives on site, even for those without a driving licence.

On 12 September 2026, Munich will host the GromSearch Europe Final. Following the national qualifying rounds in five European countries, the best young surfers will gather at o2 SURFTOWN MUC. The competition starts at 12 noon and runs until 8 pm. This will be followed at 8.30 pm by the prize-giving ceremony, along with drinks and finger food. Competitors will compete in the U12, U14 and U16 age groups. Citroën is supporting the entire tour as a partner, bringing together two distinct worlds: surfing culture and motoring. Freedom, individuality, adventure and the desire to break new ground form the common ground between these two worlds. This connection is particularly evident in the Citroën Ami Rip Curl Edition, which is the result of the long-standing collaboration between Citroën and the surf brand Rip Curl.

Electric mobility from the age of 15 with the Ami

The Citroën Ami brings the surfing and outdoor lifestyle to a compact electric vehicle designed for city use. The electric two-seater has a top speed of 45 kilometres per hour and is authorised in Germany for drivers aged 15 and over with an AM licence. At the finale, visitors can try out the Ami on a cordoned-off test track. Test drives are even available there for young people without a driving licence. With its compact design, the Ami represents an accessible and personalised form of urban mobility.

A varied programme at the event venue

Citroën is showcasing a range of activities on the o2 SURFTOWN MUC site. As well as the Ami, visitors can try out other models from the brand on test drives. The Ami will also be converted into a DJ booth to provide background music. The C5 Aircross Ball Challenge calls for skill and accuracy. The Curfboard Grom Contest, powered by Citroën, offers young skate-surfers their very own competition. Further Citroën models and a campervan round off the brand’s presence. The brand’s involvement in GromSearch Europe 2026 aims to bring the connection between mobility, lifestyle and surf culture to life. Citroën wants to show a new generation that personal mobility can also be compact, electric and unconventional.

The European Final as the highlight of the season

The European Final marks the conclusion of the national competitions in five countries. The qualifying tournaments in Italy, Spain, the UK, Portugal and France have identified the best young talents. These athletes will compete against one another in Munich to determine the European champions in the three age groups. With its standing wave, o2 SURFTOWN MUC offers ideal conditions for a fair competition. The artificial wave ensures consistent conditions for all participants and means the event is not dependent on natural conditions. The event is aimed not only at the competing athletes, but also at spectators and surfing enthusiasts. Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
