What once began as a small Euro Funboard Cup is now the largest windsurfing event in the world with around 250,000 spectators. "Over the past 40 years, the island has seen some of the biggest names on the scene come and go. The eternal duel between the legends of the sport, Bjørn Dunkerbeck and Robby Naish, in the 1980s and 1990s is still talked about today. In the 2000s, the Moreno Twins from Spain made a name for themselves," says the film's description. The NDR team led by author Patrick Halatsch was up close and personal at the 2024 World Cup, meeting legends such as Bernd Flessner, Björn Dunkerbeck and Andrea Hoeppner and talking to them about their memories of Sylt
However, the documentary also provides a look behind the scenes: "The traditional event is also struggling more and more to assert itself in the global sports calendar. Once a trendsetter, today a niche sport in search of sponsors and media presence." The documentary not only looks back, but also looks ahead and delves deep into the familiar world of the Windsurf World Cup Sylt!
