After the opening day with foil slalom, Lake Garda was supplied with stronger and more constant wind yesterday. A change in the air circulation over the northern Adriatic strengthened the classic Ora southerly breeze to over 13 knots - perfect conditions for the switch to fin slalom. The competition day followed the same schedule as Wednesday, with two elimination rounds for the men and six races for the women.
While Taty Frans claimed the first race win of the day, Jordy Vonk's consistency ultimately paid off. The Dutchman took the lead in the men's final division, demonstrating his versatility. Taty Frans is only in sixth place after finishing eleventh in the second heat. In second and third place are Nico Prien and Malte Reuscher, two drivers with GER sail numbers. Bruno Martini and Sacha Fortune, the best junior, also performed strongly.
In the women's event, Justine Lemeteyer continued her impressive dominance - she obviously doesn't care whether a foil or a fin is in the board. The Frenchwoman won all six races, impressively underlining her supremacy. Her compatriot Charlotte Philip and the Dutchwoman Femke van der Veen followed in second and third place.
The IFCA European Championship continues until Sunday, and the forecasts promise more races on fin or foil over the weekend.
