Traditionally, many Turkish locals took part in the Vakkorama 2024 IFCA Fin & Foil European Championships, accompanied by some of the top professionals from the World Cup. A total of 112 starters from 12 nations competed for the European Championship titles in the fin and foil classification.
Michele Becker took the runner-up European title on the foil in the "Danish sandwich" between winner Johan Søe and Noah Vinter in third place. Søe won all eleven heats, while Becker only managed second place in three strikes. Maxi Räuchle, the second German in the field, finished the European Championships in eighth place.
Räuchle finished tenth in the much larger fin field, with Taty Frans taking the European title: "That feels really good!" he wrote on Instagram afterwards. "We raced seven eliminations, which meant 21 heats in three days." Marcus Becker, who was in Alacati with his son Michele, finished the European Championships in 32nd place.
In the women's event, Marion Mortefon was crowned European champion on both the fin and the foil. Elif Ercan came third on the fin and second on the foil. Speed specialist Melek Toraman finished in 10th place on the Finn
"One of the most striking aspects of this event was the strong presence of young athletes," emphasised the organisers. "These rising stars represent the future of the sport, not only competing but also gaining invaluable experience at IFCA races on home soil. Their enthusiasm and determination to push the sport forward was truly inspiring."
