Changing conditions characterised the third day of competition at the IFCA Fin Slalom European Championships in Hvide Sande. After a calm and sunny start, the wind gradually picked up before dying down again and later returning once more. The Race Committee and the athletes had to react flexibly to the fluctuating conditions, making the most of every opportunity. Justine Lemeteyer won the tenth race and picked up vital points in the battle for podium places.
Nico Prien continued his dominant performance and remains at the top of the men’s standings. Prien once again demonstrated his class in Elimination Six, winning all three heats. His record after six eliminations is remarkable: 16 heat wins from 18 races started underline his current form. Sacha Fortune has moved up to second place and now sits ahead of Brendan Lorho, who is third. Taty Frans holds fourth place, whilst Jimmy Thiémé has broken into the top five.
Gibson defends her lead in the women’s event
Jenna Gibson maintained her lead in the women’s standings. The British rider navigated the changing conditions with confidence and remains at the top of the standings. Justine Lemeteyer and Femke van der Veen are level on points in second and third place respectively, guaranteeing a close battle for the podium places. Mae Davico is in fourth place, whilst Charlotte Philip lies in fifth.
The Race Committee is planning an early start for the fourth day of competition, as wind is forecast for the morning. These conditions could lead to significant changes in the standings, particularly in the men’s event. With seven elimination rounds now complete, the third discard comes into play, which could shake up the overall standings.
