The second day of competition at the iQFOiL Games in El Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz, once again presented the 240 athletes with a challenging task. After the stormy start, the conditions on Tuesday were a little more favourable, but continued to challenge the participants to the full. The wind freshened from 13-18 knots at the beginning of the day to up to 25 knots, with gusts of as much as 30 knots being measured. Despite some passing clouds, the sun dominated and created almost perfect conditions for action-packed racing.

In the main field, which raced on the Alpha course further out, the athletes had to contend with waves up to three metres high. Australian Olympic silver medallist Grae Morris put in an impressive performance and underpinned his lead in the overall standings with three wins in four races. He was closely followed by Brit Finn Hawkins with three second places, while Dutchman Max Castelein maintained third place with a consistent performance.

Max Castelein was satisfied despite narrowly missing out on victory in the final race: "I liked the conditions today. It was beautiful, quite bumpy, but I like that, so I was able to handle it well most of the time. I was close to taking my first win in a course race, but I took it too easy at the end and Thomas Goyard overtook me just before the finish. I was disappointed, but I will get a course race win one day. It was a super good day for me."

Israel's women around Tamar Steinberg strong as a bear, Wilson stumbles

In the women's race, Israel's Tamar Steinberg was unstoppable. With four victories in four races, she was the clear leader of the field. British Olympic bronze medallist Emma Wilson, on the other hand, had a difficult day and had to drop out of two races. Her best result was a sixth place. Israel's Daniela Peleg now shares second place on equal points with Wilson and leads a strong Israeli delegation, which also took fourth and fifth place.

Tamar Steinberg commented on her dominant performance: "The race today was very good for me. I just enjoyed the surfing, had fun and good speed, so everything worked out well. I've always kind of liked these conditions since I was little. But even if the weather changes, I'll just try to stay consistent for the rest of the week."

Perfect day for Yfke van der Meer

In the women's U19 category, Yfke Van der Meer from the Netherlands put in a flawless performance. With five wins in five races, she extended her lead to 10 points over Poland's Zofia Zarzecka, who achieved four third places. Hungary's Hanna Simon took third place after a consistent day with five second places. Remarkably, the last four races in this fleet have seen identical podium finishes.

Yfke Van der Meer was delighted with her perfect day: "Such strong wind and waves and a nice battle with Hanna made it a perfect day! Winning all five races also helped to make it so special. I think I'm strong in the cross, with the right angle and the right speed. I hope I can continue like this until the end of the week!"

Kilian Manhaval remains in front despite damage

In the U19 men's race, Frenchman Kilian Manhaval maintained his lead despite a material failure in the last race. He took two victories and cancelled the last race and the fifth as a scratch result. The best performance of the day came from Switzerland's Robin Zeley with an impressive series of 2,1,1,2, which saw him move up to second place overall. Titouan Dizet, another French rider, completed the top 3.

Manhaval was also satisfied: "I had a good day today and managed to win two races. We have great conditions in Cadiz, good wind, we get on the water a lot. I'm really happy. The plan is to keep the lead until the Medal Series, which gives a nice advantage with the new format."

Erik Wehkamp made a big leap up to 19th place, Paul Regber is in 25th place and Nils Präger slipped down to 32nd. Eddie Burger climbed slightly to 41st place.

Strong Polish women in the U17 women's competition, Dutch dominate the U17 men's competition

The Polish team demonstrated its strength in the women's U17 category. Julia Przbyl leads ahead of her compatriot Marta Gajdzinska. The only non-Polish athlete in the top 3 is Anna Korevaar from the Netherlands in third place.

In the U17 men's event, Finn Brull from the Netherlands maintained his lead with three more race wins. His compatriot Merlijn Boswijk remains in second place, while František Burda moved up to third place after a solid day on the water.

The wind and waves are expected to ease temporarily in the coming day, which could give the athletes a much-needed break from the extreme conditions and provide the opportunity for some sprint racing. However, Thursday promises to be possibly the most intense day of the week, with average wind speeds of over 30 knots and waves up to 4.5 metres high - another real challenge to the skills and endurance of the iQFOiL fleet.
