160 athletes from 34 nations open the second edition of the iQFOiL International Games 2026 in Cadiz. There were four races for all six fleets at the start, with Moritz Schleicher in fifth place in the U17.

The starting field at the second iQFOiL Games of the year - and the first regatta for the junior classes - is divided into six fleets: senior women and men as well as the U19 and U17, each separated by gender. The opening day began with a waiting phase on land. Too little wind delayed the start of the races in the morning. In the course of the afternoon, a breeze gradually set in and enabled the Race Committee to organise four course races for all six fleets. The different fleets completed their races in parallel on the courses in front of the city.

Czech dominance in the senior women's competition

Katerina Svikova leads the provisional women's rankings after the first day of competition. Her compatriot Kristýna Piňosová follows in second place and completes the Czech double lead. Spanish Olympic athlete Pilar Lamadrid secured third place in front of her home crowd. The three riders performed consistently across all four races and set themselves apart from the rest of the field. The other positions remain close together after the opener. Germany's top duo Theresa Steinlein and Sophia Meyer is not present in Cadiz.

Brazilian Olympian Mateus Isaac dominates the men's fleet after day one. His solid and consistent performance across all four races earned him the lead in the overall standings. Onur Cavit Biriz from Turkey is in second place, while Rytis Jasunas from Lithuania completes the provisional podium in third place. The men's starting field is evenly matched, with the gaps between the top positions remaining small. Finley Evans, the only German starter, is in 21st place.
