The 2026 Vanora Engadinwind in Silvaplana came to an end on 21 August after a week of mixed wind conditions. A lack of wind on the final day prevented any races from taking place on the Swiss mountain lake; only on Wednesday were there enough conditions for racing. The results from the week therefore stood as final and determined the winners in all fleets. Gonzalo Costa Hoevel from Argentina secured the historic title of the first iQFOiL Masters World Champion with a flawless run of five victories. The Argentine dominated the Masters competition at will, with his compatriot Fernando Martínez del Cerro finishing in second place. Paweł Diettrich from Poland completed the podium in third place.
British success in the U19 men’s competition; home victory for Inversin in the U19 women’s competition
The inaugural Masters World Championships took place alongside the third Youth & Junior International Games 2026. Charlie Baker from Great Britain secured victory in the U19 category. The Briton came out on top in the overall standings of the third 2026 iQFOiL Youth & Junior International Games. Hungary celebrated a one-two finish on the podium. Brothers Yoan Gyorváry and Luca Gyorváry took second and third place respectively. Baker made the most of the conditions on Wednesday and extended his lead decisively.
Ernestine Inversin triumphed in the U19 women’s fleet on home waters. The Swiss sailor put her knowledge of the spot to good use and won ahead of Kelsy Loryin Moreno. Chloé Favre, the second Swiss sailor on the podium, finished third. Inversin proved particularly superior in the tactical sections and found the best wind lines on the challenging course.
Kie dominates the U17 boys’ competition, Dale triumphs in the U17 girls’ competition
Hau Shing Kie from Hong Kong came out on top in the U17 boys’ fleet. The Hong Kong sailor relegated France’s Tom Pringuer to second place. Tim Jaquet from Switzerland secured bronze in front of his home crowd. Kie put in consistently strong performances throughout the week and did not let the European competition unsettle him. Pringuer fought for victory right until the end, but ultimately had to admit defeat. Jaquet made the most of his home advantage and completed the international podium.
Marta Dale dominated the U17 girls’ fleet. The Spanish sailor gave her rivals no chance and cruised to a comfortable victory. Sunny Liebig took second place. Alina Durrer from Switzerland rounded off the podium in third place. Dale proved superior in all conditions and won the decisive races with ease. Liebig secured silver with consistent placings at the front of the field. Durrer fought her way onto the podium as the best Swiss competitor in this age group.
A look ahead to the Last Chance Qualifier
The event in Silvaplana continues seamlessly. The iQFOiL Last Chance Qualifier for the senior fleets gets underway on Monday. The athletes will have one last chance to qualify for the World Championships in the UK. The organisers are hoping for better wind conditions than on the final day of the Youth & Junior Games.
