The iQFOiL International Games Youth & Junior in Torbole concluded last weekend with the Medal Series. After a first half of the week characterised by unstable weather and a lack of wind, Lake Garda Trentino showed its best side over the last two days. There was plenty of racing action again on Friday, initially with northerly winds, later the Ora breeze built up into the evening. On the final Saturday, the southerly breeze started early in the morning and remained constant at eleven to 13 knots, allowing for a quick succession of starts. The top eight athletes in each category were on the water, competing for the podium places in the medal series format with quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
In the U19 men's class, the only category with two finals, victory went to Finn Brüll from the Netherlands. After a third place in the first final, Brüll won the second race with an excellent start and thus secured the second point he needed for overall victory. Poland's Gustaw Trybek finished second, while France's Titouan Dizet took bronze. In the U19 women's event, Israel's Alba Klein confirmed her leading position and won gold. France's Salomé Simon followed in second place. Vittoria Marconi made an impressive comeback: she started in the quarter-finals, fought her way through the semi-finals and reached the final, where she secured the bronze medal.
The U17 men's title went to Moritz Schleicher, who secured victory in the very first final after an intense duel with Czech sailor Frantisek Burda. Schleicher had previously dominated the entire event and won every race in his group. He was able to take a disqualification after a black flag as a strimmer so that he went into the final with the best possible score. Burda finished second, with Frenchman Mahé Givernaud completing the podium in third place. The U17 girls' class also delivered a high-class final, in which Italian riders Elisa Bruno and Elettra Fulgenzi put in strong performances from the quarter-finals to the final. Marta Gajdzinska from Poland took the win ahead of Anna Jannieke Korevaar from the Netherlands in second place. Elisa Bruno from Ancona secured third place.
In the U15 category, Italy came out on top in both the boys' and girls' categories. Marta Clemente won the girls' event ahead of Greta Alesi. Bronze went to Leila Kortvelyesi from Hungary. Marco Cicerone topped the boys' podium. Andrea Mottin followed in second place, with Estonia's Leonid Turovski completing the podium in third place.
The Circolo Surf Torbole, the International iQFOiL Youth & Junior Class and the FIV Race Committee were satisfied with the organisation of the event. Despite a challenging week in terms of weather conditions, the organisers managed to hold the maximum possible number of races for the young athletes.
