The organisers of the Island Games Rügen have given the go-ahead for this weekend. The forecast looks good and the standby contest will start on Saturday. Entry is at the campsite in Suhrendorf, which opens at 8.00 am for the participants.
"As a participant you get a 20% discount (even if you come on Friday)," write the organisers. "Book your place on the surf meadow if you don't need electricity. Then we'll all be together and you'll be right at the spot!"
The first skippers' meeting is scheduled for 9.00 am at the surf school. "If the forecast stays like this, we'll be sailing the final heats on Sunday morning." It is important to remember the weed fins.
About island-games-ruegen.de Anyone who wants to take part can register so that the organisers have an overview of how big the field will be.
Between the island of Ummanz and the offshore island of Hiddensee, Germany's probably largest standing area stretches over several square kilometres. The spot itself works in a wide wind window from south to west to north-east. An easterly wind is also possible thanks to the flat hinterland, albeit a little gusty, but then you have to go further out into the deep water to have a constant wind and because the water, apart from small choppy waves, remains smooth even in storms and you can simply run back in an emergency, this spot is perfect for all intermediates, jibe fans and freestylers.
