The wind forecast predicts promising conditions for the coming weekend (13–14 June 2026) on Rügen. The Battles will therefore kick off on the very first possible date of the standby period, with competition days on Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, the conditions at the previous surf festival were not sufficient for a full-scale contest. The organisers are now banking on more stable wind conditions this weekend on Germany’s largest Baltic Sea island. The organisers emphasise that freestyle windsurfing in Germany does not only take place in and around Kiel. With the event on Rügen, they aim to highlight the geographical diversity of the German freestyle scene.
Two fleets for different skill levels
For the first time, the event is offering two separate competition classes. The A-Fleet is aimed at riders who are comfortable with air jibes and more complex turns. The B-Fleet welcomes anyone who prefers classics such as loose jibe variations and body drags. This division allows riders of different ability levels to compete fairly at their respective levels. The organisers aim to make participation attractive to a wider range of windsurfers. Beginners to the freestyle discipline, in particular, are given the opportunity to gain their first competitive experience without having to compete directly against the top riders.

The Registration The event is already underway via the Rügen Island Games website. The organisers ask that you register as soon as possible to help with planning. The latest updates regarding the start of the competition will be shared via the German Freestyle Battles channels. The organisers are making a special appeal to female freestylers. There is an active community of enthusiastic female windsurfers on Rügen. The organisers are encouraging female riders to turn out in large numbers and to recruit more fellow competitors to strengthen the women’s field.
