A bit of Brawzinho, a bit of Fernandez, a bit of Siver - that would be Julian Salmonn's wish list

Even professional surfers sometimes think "I'd like to be able to do that too!" In our short series, Julian Salmonn tells us which colleagues he would like to learn from.

Julian, if you were allowed to steal three skills, things or similar from other riders, what would they be?

Now that's a cool idea! I'd love to steal Marcilio Browne's skills with wind from the right. At my home spot on Tenerife, I only have wind from the left. Of course, I can also learn wave riding and jumps with wind from the right. But he has lived and trained on Maui for many years, where the wind is almost exclusively from the right. He's just so good!

Okay, what else?

I would like to steal Victor Fernandez's experience in competitions, because he almost always ends up on the podium.

What experiences do you mean by that?

His time management, he gets into the heats well, he gets his wave riding and jumps into the heats so well. And if things don't go so well at the start, he keeps his nerve and still manages it so well.

And the third?

(Laughs) I would take Levi Siver, that is, his timing in Hookipa. He lives on Maui and goes out on the water in Hookipa every day. But it takes years to get that good.

What makes his timing so good in Hookipa?

Yes, from the outside the wave looks perfect and even better than it actually is. The wave has different sections and the wind blows a little offshore or a little onshore. At the same time, it is one of the spots where the wave has the most punch. It's not a spot with a point break, but the wave is split up and you have to have the perfect timing for it. It would take me years. But I also want to spend more time on Maui in the future so that I can do well at the Aloha Classic, this epic event.
