Windsurfing action right in the city centre – back again in 2026 during Kiel Week at the marina
It’s not just about the big boats: Wing foiling and freestyle windsurfing will be back at Kieler Woche in 2026!

Although the Olympic iQFOiL class was scheduled to be an official sailing discipline at Kieler Woche 2026, the races were cancelled due to an insufficient number of entrants. Consequently, Fabian Wolf can Last year's triumph, when he won the races ahead of Stein, he won't be able to repeat that feat just yet.

But even without iQFOiL, there are plenty of exciting highlights: from 25 to 28 June, the wingfoilers will be competing on the outer fjord in Schilksee. The Wingfoil Racing German Open is not just about victory at Kieler Woche, but also about securing a starting place for the top female and male competitors at the test event for the 2027 World Sailing Championships. Numerous top German riders will be competing, such as Yannick Holste, Jonte Boysen, Jette Koep, Pit Hausberg and Malik Humeida, who has just set a world record in long-distance foiling.

Windsurf tow-in at the Ocean Fun Park by the marina

Visitors can also look forward to plenty of action at the marina in the heart of Kiel city centre. On 25 June from 7 pm, the “Winch Windsurf World Championships” will take place at the Ocean Funpark, where a number of local Kiel windsurfers and top freestylers will be hauled onto the water by winch and perform their tricks amidst the crowd. This will be followed on 26 June, also from 7 pm, by a “Best Trick” contest based on the same principle. And then the party gets underway, with a different DJ each night.

Throughout the week, the Ocean Funpark is also offering sessions in stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and other water sports!
