To mark its 40th anniversary, the World Cup Sylt is delighted to have a new title partner: a long-term partnership has been agreed with Citroën. This year, the largest windsurfing event in the world will run from 27 September to 6 October.

This year, the Windsurf World Cup Sylt is starting with a new, strong title partner. The largest windsurfing event in the world is being supported by car manufacturer Citroën, which is taking over the title patronage of the renowned World Cup in a long-term partnership and thus further expanding its commitment to the sport.

Fixed date in the Sylt calendar

The organisers are also looking forward to the new partnership and the upcoming event in September: "The Windsurf World Cup is a firmly established date in Sylt's event calendar. We are looking forward to welcoming the world elite of this action-packed water sport to our island once again for the biggest windsurfing event in the world," says the organiser. World Cup Sylt celebrates its 40th anniversary

The first World Cup was held on Sylt in 1983, and this year will be the 40th edition - the event had to be cancelled twice during the coronavirus pandemic. Four decades on the North Sea island that has seen big names come and go, in unforgettable competitions and countless special moments. From the dominance and eternal duel between the legends of the sport Bjørn Dunkerbeck and Robby Naish in the 80s and 90s to the Spanish "Moreno Twins" in the 2000s and the victories of five-time world champion Philip Köster and many others from all over the world.

This year, in addition to the sport on the water - wave riding, slalom and freestyle are on the programme, with the men's world championship being decided on the island in the latter - there will also be traditional entertainment on the promenade on Brandenburg Beach. In addition to beach shopping, pop-up stores and gastronomic experiences, the World Cup Sylt is of course also famous for its marquee parties with free admission. The organisers of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup are expecting more than 200,000 visitors, so you should make a note of the dates from 27 September to 6 October!
