For the first time, two windsurfers in Lower Saxony have been nominated for Sportsman of the Year: Jenny Bouhier and Lasse Brudek took part in the Raceboard World Championships at Steinhuder. Here's how you can vote for them!

What do Jenny Bouhier, Lasse Brudek and NBA star Dennis Schröder have in common? They have all been nominated for Sportsman of the Year. A big deal, because while you often see a windsurfer in the selection for Sportsman of the Year in Schleswig-Holstein, no one in Lower Saxony has ever made it.

Both Jenny and Lasse can look back on a fantastic season, the biggest highlight of which was probably their participation in the World Championships in the Raceboard class in their own country. Jennifer Bouhier came third, while Lasse Brudek took 19th place. He also won the Nations Cup with the German men.

Both also compete as a team with Fabian Aldinger and Markus Bouhier in the German Windsurfing League and became German champions in 2023. Lasse also competes in the windsurfer LT class, where he took first place at the German Championships.

This is how the vote for Sportsman of the Year works, this is how you can vote

Five athletes and teams are selected by a jury and nominated for the Sportsman of the Year award. The jury looks at each sport in Lower Saxony and looks at the special successes of the athletes, but also what they do for the sport. In addition to Lasse, basketball player Dennis Schröder has been nominated, while Jenny is up against BMX rider Kim Lea Müller among other athletes

50% of the vote will be influenced by the jury's votes, the other half will be decided by online voting. Voting will run until 31 January and the winners will be presented at the Lower Saxony Sports Ball on 16 February 2024.

From Techno 293 to raceboard and iQFoil

Jennifer Bouhier and Lasse Brudek have been racing together since childhood. First in the Techno 293 class, then on the Olympic RS:X, and at the same time always on the long raceboards. They were supported by their fathers Frank Bender and Markus Brudek, both active regatta racers themselves.

Both are also involved in the windsurfing scene: Jenny worked for many years at the office of the German Windsurfing Association, while Lasse runs a surf school and shop in Wilhelmshaven with his parents alongside his job. Both are active in the Jade Windsurfing Club, which has doubled in size to almost 200 members in recent years. Among other things, the two have established a Wednesday regatta there, in which over 100 participants were ranked at the end of the year. There are also five different speed challenges, a partner regatta and many other club activities. In winter, Jenny and Lasse go to Tarifa for training - on the raceboard, the iQFoil, but also in the waves.
