Michi Schweiger experienced what entire generations of windsurfers could only dream of. Born in a country without a sea, he rose to become a windsurfing instructor on Lake Garda before making the big leap across the pond. Today, Schweiger is a Hawaiian by choice, lives ten minutes away from Hookipa and is usually out and about with his best buddy and boss Robby Naish in search of wind and waves.

Michi, when was the last time you bit your fist with happiness?

MICHI SCHWEIGER: This morning (laughs). When I look out to sea, see the waves, hear the palm trees rustling - I know I've found my happiness. Maui will also have its downsides.MICHI SCHWEIGER: Sure, living here is different to spending a two-week holiday on Maui. But there are a hell of a lot of sunny sides to Hawaii. Your career is amazing. From windsurfing instructor on Lake Garda to professional surfer and finally to head of windsurfing at Naish on Maui. How do you manage something like that?

MICHI SCHWEIGER: Call it luck, call it coincidence. Probably both. In any case, I originally come from Lake Neufelder south of Vienna. You can read the interview with Michi Schweiger as a PDF download.
