The International Funboard Class Association (IFCA) is opening the 2026 season with a highlight: for the first time in years, France is once again organising an IFCA World Championship. The Cercle de Voile du Cap Leucate is organising the Grand Slam Fin & Foil Slalom Worlds from 22 to 26 April as part of the Mondial du Vent.
In contrast to previous IFCA regattas, the field of participants is high-calibre: Pierre Mortefon and his sister Marion Mortefon have a home advantage, as well as professionals such as Jordy Vonk, Benoît Merceur, Johan Jules, Pierre Macquert, Matteo Iachino and numerous other PWA athletes. The next generation will be represented by Colin Lermitant, Sacha Fortune, Elliot Joly and Brendan Lorho, who will enter the senior competition. In the women's competition Justine LemeteyerMaé Davico and Marion Mortefon. International competition comes from Blanca Alabau, Jenna Gibson and Femke Van Der Veen. For many of the top riders, it is the first big event of the season and a test before the start of the World Cups.
A collaboration between the IFCA and the PWA was announced in the run-up to the World Cup. The cooperation is based on open communication, transparency and constructive dialogue. Both organisations are striving for coordination in areas relating to athletes, events and the international calendar. The aim is to reduce overlaps and create opportunities that benefit all parties involved. The IFCA is currently developing a comprehensive ranking system that will integrate national series, IFCA events and the PWA World Tour. Details will be announced once the development phase is complete. The cooperation is intended to benefit athletes, organisers, manufacturers and partners alike.
In addition to the IFCA World Championships, the Mondial du Vent also hosts the GWA Wingfoil World Cup, the Parawing SFT World Cup, kiteboarding competitions and freestyle demonstrations. Leucate is transformed into a board sports capital during the event.
Fans worldwide can follow the event via the IFCA and CVCL social media channels. Live updates, photo and video coverage as well as bilingual commentary in French and English by presenter Greta Marchegger are planned.
