The Multivan Windsurf Cup in St. Peter-Ording could not have got off to a better start. A complete wave elimination was held on the opening day in six to seven force winds. Holger Beer (GER-789, Quatro, S2 Maui) from Flensburg beat Mats von Holten from Hamburg in the final.
The windsurfers had been eagerly awaiting the Multivan Windsurf Cup St. Peter-Ording for days. The wind forecasts for the entire weekend were excellent. Due to the excellent prospects, a "wave alert" was issued for the first time since 2019. Wavers from all over Germany and even from abroad made their way to St. Peter-Ording to compete for victory in the waves. As planned, the wave discipline got underway on the opening Thursday.
Holger Beer fought his way to the top over four rounds. He already had a tough nut to crack in the first round with one of the co-favourites Daniel Weiß (GER-1983, Supremesurf). In the second round, he eliminated Oliver Schott (GER-26, Patrik, Duotone). The next hurdle on the way to the final was Dennis Müller (GER-89, Patrik, Gun Sails) from Norderney. Beer then faced youngster Mats von Holten (GER-2019, Fanatic, Duotone) in the final. In a thrilling duel, the veteran Beer was able to prevail against the youngster von Holten.
Von Holten was more than satisfied with his second place, however. The talented youngster had travelled all the way from Gran Canaria for the Multivan Windsurf Cup St. Peter-Ording. But the time-consuming journey was worth it for von Holten. In the first round, he eliminated iQFoil expert Lars Poggemann (GER-730, Patrik). Round two was a duel between the youngsters. He came out on top in the battle with Leo Richter (GER-441, JP Australia, Neil Pryde). In the semi-final, he faced SPO local Florian Gawer (GER- 949, Simmer Style). Here, von Holten was able to secure second place by reaching the final. Only there did he have to concede to the superior Holger Beer.
Dennis Müller (GER-89, Patrik, Gun Sails) from Norderney was probably the most pleased with his result. His third place confirmed his good seeded position, which meant he didn't even have to compete in the first round. In round two, he won a thrilling duel against freestyle expert and co-favourite Niclas Nebelung (GER-584, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Fanatic, Duotone) and caused quite a stir. In the semi-final, Müller was beaten by the eventual winner Holger Beer. However, he fought back in the B final and deserved third place in the first DWC waveriding event since 2019 by beating SPO local Florian Gawer.
Best Grandmaster was Oliver Schott from Kiel. In addition to second place in the overall standings, Mats von Holten was also able to celebrate victory in the Youth U-21 division. Leo Richter once again confirmed himself as one of the best young talents in Germany with first place in the Youth U19 Division.
This meant that the first discipline of the Multivan Windsurf Cup was completed on the first day of the event. Three more days remain for the top German series in St. Peter-Ording. They will now focus fully on the second discipline "Slalom". The wind forecast is still excellent, so that exciting races can be expected on the North Sea in front of Ordinär Strand on all days. Until the winners are crowned on Sunday at 17:00.
But it's not just on the water that visitors to the Multivan Windsurf Cup have something to look forward to. There will be a colourful supporting and party programme in the large event village. A special highlight of the event in SPO is the Vanlife World. In addition to the latest Bullis and California models from title sponsor Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, a wide range of outdoor mobility products will be presented. From roof tents and conversion solutions to camping accessories, you will find everything you need for a mobile lifestyle in the great outdoors. Even whirlpools and saunas can be found on the North Sea beach.
In the event village on Ordinger Strand, visitors can enjoy refreshments from the various catering stands on site. The drinks on offer range from top German wines from the Messer-Krämer winery to fresh König Pilsener beer and delicious cocktails. Those who don't want alcoholic drinks can look forward to delicious Fritz lemonades.
No Surf Cup without parties! - This is finally true again for the Multivan Windsurf Cup St. Peter-Ording. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening there will be an attractive music programme in the Event Village directly on the beach in Ording, so that you can party and dance every evening.
