The new King Frederik X is being crowned in Denmark today. The current crown prince is a great fan of water sports - and has already had a taste of windsurfing!

The new Danish King Frederik X is a monarch who has always had a close relationship with water sports. Frederik has long been active as a sailor in the Farr 40, Tasar and Dragon classes and is also a trained combat diver. But the 55-year-old also has close ties to windsurfing and was the patron of the World Cup in Klitmøller for several years.

In 2013, he even travelled to Cold Hawaii himself (in the palace's own Tesla) to attend the event. He even stood on the board himself. Together with schoolchildren, he received an introduction from the World Cup pros on the Vandet Sø. He also learnt all about windsurfing from riders such as Victor Fernandez, Philip Köster and Klaas Voget. Even if not everything worked out on the board, he still had a lot of fun. Afterwards, he watched some World Cup heats on the mussel reef from the jet ski.

Frederik, who holds several nautical ranks, is proclaimed the new King of Denmark today. Beforehand, his mother, the current Queen Margrethe II, signs her abdication document. In contrast to the English royal family, the ceremony in Copenhagen will be kept short and simple - in keeping with the style of the family.

SUP pro and Klitmøller local Caspar Steinfath is also no stranger to the Danish royal family: He was invited by Queen Margrethe onto the royal yacht "Dannebrog" in 2021 to report on his sporting successes and projects in private.
