The new Goya Cypher 2 Pro brings a breath of fresh air to the freestyle scene. Aiming for a modern, explosive freestyle sail that remains easy and enjoyable to ride.

We spoke to sail designer Jason Diffin about the innovations, the idea behind the mini sizes and the motivation for further development.

What are the main innovations with the Cypher 2?

Cypher 2 introduces Warp Carbon clew panels for a more direct and responsive connection between the clew and the sail body, giving fingertip precision and sharper handling. A new Dacron luff panel adds flex and neutrality, making the sail smoother, easier to depower, and more balanced across gusty wind ranges. Combined with refined shaping and constructions, these updates deliver a faster, lighter, more controlled freestyle experience.

With a 3.1 and 3.4 meter version, Goya offers extremely small freestyle sails with the Cypher 2. Are these intended equally for strong wind and lighter/smaller riders?

Yes – these smaller sizes are designed to keep the same explosive lift and quick response that define the Cypher 2, while remaining highly controllable in strong winds. They’re perfectly tuned for high-wind freestyle, smaller riders, and lighter body weights without losing power or handling ease. These key sizes also bridge the gap in to the world of freeride windsurf foiling. The Cypher 2 range is balanced to serve both ends of the spectrum – from compact, high-wind performance to smooth, controllable power for lighter or smaller riders. Its light feel and flexible structure make it easy to manage without sacrificing lift or acceleration.

What inspired the push to develop a new freestyle sail?

Windsurf sail design never stops evolving. The inspiration behind the Cypher has always been to elevate technical freestyle performance while keeping the sail accessible and fun – not just for pros, but for anyone developing their skills. Working with riders around the world has helped shape that focus: modern, explosive freestyle power that remains easy and enjoyable to ride.
