There's nothing better for hobby heaters: 7.8 freerace sails are the kings on the lake and can even be easy to handle! We tested nine sails with two and three camber. We also show you the best spots on Fehmarn, the Carving 360, Vincent Langer talks about his career and much more!

If there is an evergreen spot in Germany, then it is the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn. Ever since windsurfing boomed here in the early 1980s, generations of surfers have made the pilgrimage across the Sundbrücke bridge to the spots on the sunny island. Whether beginner, advanced or expert, youngster or best ager - Fehmarn always attracts. And there are good reasons for this: Depending on the wind strength and direction, everyone will find their ideal spot here - unless you're looking for mast-high knockers.

The popularity of the island quickly led to more and more surf shops and schools setting up on the island over the years. At times, Germany's third-largest Baltic Sea island (185 square kilometres) had the highest density of shops and surf stations in Germany. In the meantime, some shops have changed their name to kite dealers and some have not survived the crises of recent years, but anyone willing to buy can still find a wide range of hardware and accessories in the shops in Landkirchen, Burg or Orth. Fehmarn's popularity has been fuelled above all by the comfortable and wind-safe areas for beginners, intermediates, freeriders and freestylers. The huge, shallow areas of the Burger Binnensee, the Wulfener Hals or the Orther Reede are unrivalled.

Fehmarn has, for better or worse, refused to succumb to tourist gigantism. To some extent, time seems to have stood still a few decades ago. The fact that Fehmarn becomes a place of pilgrimage every spring on Ascension Day is not least thanks to the surf festival. The site on the south beach, between Burger Binnensee and the open Baltic Sea, is the ideal location for the annual event. Over the years, it has evolved from its origins as a pure test event into a relaxed festival for all "ocean lovers". This year it will take place again from 29 May to 1 June. In the new surf issue you will not only find the preview of the festival, but also the big Fehmarn Spot Guide!
