At the Racer of the Sea as part of the 2024 Surf Festival 30 of the 70 participants were under the age of 19, and some of their parents also took part. This gave the two initiators, Oliver Tom Schliemann and Leon Delle, the idea of introducing a family classification. The premiere will be at the Racer of the Sea in Kellenhusen from 29 to 30 June.
One parent and one child always form a team. This team can either compete in the same or in a different division. The family classification is won by the team with the lowest score after adding the two individual results. At the end of the season, there will be a large challenge cup for the best family team.
"At our regattas, we quickly realised that we were also able to motivate some families to compete together thanks to the broad target group. This has not only created a family atmosphere and great moments, but has also led to internal competition between friendly families. As our events thrive on this family togetherness, we now want to officially give the 'family teams' the opportunity to compete with other families as a team," say Olli and Leon.
