On Lake Wittensee near Kiel, the local surf club offers slalom training under real regatta conditions. All the top riders took part in the opening event this year, but curious hobby surfers are also welcome at any time!

Lake Wittensee is not an unknown spot for many surfers from Kiel. With southerly winds, it is difficult to find good spots on the Baltic Sea right on your doorstep. Lake Wittensee offers more than just an alternative in these windy conditions. The Wittensee-Rendsburg Windsurfing Club (WCWR), which is based there, resumed its open slalom training this week. Among those taking part were top riders Michele Becker and Nico Prien, who will be competing in the World Cup in Fuerteventura next week. In addition, the top national riders Fabian Wolf, Vincent Langer, Leo and Anton Richter and many others were also here on the German Championship, which also begins next week .

Lake Wittensee is an ideal training area

Depending on the wind and schedule, there will be further training sessions in the coming weeks. A simple slalom course with a starting boat will be set up. The same starting procedure as at normal German regattas will enable experienced participants to prepare specifically for the events, while newcomers can familiarise themselves with the slalom race procedure in an uncomplicated environment. Special emphasis is placed on starts and jibes.

The German Windsurfing Association (GWA) allows all U21 full members to take part in training free of charge, while a small fee is charged for all others. Windsurfers can easily set off from the WCWR site (Schlauckweg 3, Groß Wittensee). The lake gets deep quickly and has no dangerous shallows, which is particularly favourable for foils. In addition, unlike the Baltic Sea, there is no problem with seaweed in summer.
