The World Cup in Pozo is just around the corner and Philip Köster has always been one of the top favourites at his home spot for more than 15 years. The PWA spoke to him ahead of the contest!

Hello Philip, how are you?

I'm doing well, family life is fun and I've been training a lot this summer, so I'm feeling good for the upcoming competitions.

What do you think of the season so far - winning the 4-star event in Margaret River and reaching the semi-finals in Chile...

The season has started well. Margaret River is a fantastic place for a contest, and it was great to ride a contest there after travelling to Western Australia countless times. Chile could have been better, but I was pretty disappointed with the decision to drag the contest out into the night as the conditions deteriorated, despite the prospect of a great day in Topocalma the next day.

Now the Gran Canaria World Cup is coming up... how are you feeling ahead of this year's event?

I feel good and relaxed for the contest. Now it's time to take it easy on the water and give my body some rest so that it can cope better with big jumps and hard landings. I also had the opportunity to test my small equipment a lot in case we get strong winds during the contest.

Were you out in Pozo a lot or was it too busy?

I've been riding in Pozo more than ever, it was fun until last week when it suddenly got very crowded. Now it's all about finding a good time slot where it's still manageable.

I remember that you were annoyed about the judges' scoring last year... Do you think you sometimes get too few points compared to others?

Yes, I think I'm sometimes underrated, maybe I've trained too much so my movements look too easy. Hopefully it will be better this year.

Last year, out of frustration, you performed a triple loop attempt that was damn close. Do you want to try it again this year?

Yes, the triple is definitely on my bucket list, will we see it at the competitions? Maybe, if the conditions are good. All I can say is that I'm more motivated than ever to do it.

Thank you, Philip. Good luck for the event!
