Maciek Rutkowski attended the Retro Show organised by the Polish shop Easy Surf and, amongst other things, tried out a vintage windsurf board with a wooden mast. Thomas Traversa has put together a few clips from his recent trips to Cape Verde; the eleven-minute video has been available on YouTube since yesterday under the title “Tropical Brutal”. A few snippets had already made it onto Instagram over the past few weeks – as always with Traversa, a collection of extremely stylish, perfectly timed wave rides at dream spots. What makes this video stand out can be seen at around the 5:40 mark: Traversa riding full throttle on a wave lip at Ali Baba. The longest tail slide of the year, the longest spin-out of the year, or simply a tribute to Kauli Seadi in “Minds Wide Open”, who back then was also dancing at high speed on the wave lip at the same spot – spectacular in any case!
Endless Lines – Nick Spangenberg in Peru
Nick Spangenberg was travelling around Peru with Flo Jung and brought back this brilliant video. “We had a brilliant time at the Flow Experience Camp; the first part of the camp took place in Pacasmayo, where we caught a good swell,” writes Nick. Later, they headed further north to Punta Luna Lodge. “The place is in a national park and far away from any civilisation. It’s the perfect spot to unwind, but also to shred some cracking waves,” enthuses Nick.

What a crash! Right in the middle of a Kabikuchi, Dudu Levi’s sail came loose from the board. That could have ended really badly. Fortunately, Dudu managed to hold on to the boom right until the end, thus preventing anything worse from happening.

After a brilliant first turn, Traversa is a split second too late and is swept away by the wave crest. The whole thing can be seen in extreme slow motion, making it easy to understand how the wipeout happened: it is triggered by contact between the wave crest and the clew. Short, snappy, atmospheric: Bulgenslag, aka Frithjof Blaasch, has revived his “One Minute” series and posted a clip featuring Leon Struppek and Foivos Tsoupras. The pair pull off one move after another on the water off Fehmarn. “I shot this footage on Fehmarn shortly after sunset in the summer of 2026,” writes Frithjof. “There wasn’t enough light, and the distance wasn’t ideal for the shots we needed for the film project.” Nevertheless, the result is a lovely clip packed with plenty of action!

In the iQFOiL World Championships in Weymouth Maxi Ortiz from Uruguay may not be competing, but he’s still very much in the spotlight on Instagram. “You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation,” he writes alongside a still image showing him flying high through the air as his board slips away from him. The Shifty, a combination of a Shaka and a push-loop rotation, is considered one of the most difficult freestyle tricks in the world – and one of the most dangerous. The risk of crashing onto the board during the second part of the move cannot be ignored. Sarah-Quita Offringa is now attempting the Shifty – the first woman in the world to do so.
Wave action from New Zealand
New Zealand has a large windsurfing community and, as an archipelago in the middle of the Southern Ocean, offers a wide variety of spectacular conditions (see also surf October 2008 and September 1993). A swell recently hit the Taranaki region in the west of the North Island; the locals were thrilled and rode the waves for all they were worth. One of the crew grabbed the camera and filmed the whole thing (“the waves were well out of my league”). Great video – it really makes you want to go! Is anyone heading to New Zealand soon?
