The Sylt World Cup is just around the corner, kicking off on 24 September. The team behind “Windsurf World Tour Stats”, the data portal for the PWA Tour, have put together a list of the most successful riders on Sylt. The top ten is led by Klaas Voget, who has finished on the podium twice, and of course Philip Köster and Marcilio Browne are also on the list. You can see the full top ten in the post above!

The Shifty, a combination of a Shaka and a pushloop rotation, is considered one of the most difficult freestyle tricks in the world – and one of the most dangerous. The risk of crashing onto the board during the second part of the move cannot be dismissed. Sarah-Quita Offringa is now attempting the Shifty – the first woman in the world to do so.
Wave action from New Zealand
New Zealand has a large windsurfing community and, as an archipelago in the middle of the Southern Ocean, offers a wide variety of spectacular conditions (see also surf October 2008 and September 1993). A swell recently hit the Taranaki region in the west of the North Island; the locals were thrilled and rode the waves for all they were worth. One of the crew grabbed the camera and filmed the whole thing (“the waves were well out of my league”). Great video – it really makes you want to go! Is anyone heading to New Zealand soon?

Even with two new hips, Björn Dunkerbeck can still go full throttle: the windsurfing legend was in Cape Verde with his son Liam, as guests of Robinson and his old mate Josh Angulo. Together, they had some brilliant days in Ponta Preta and really let their hair down there!

In this short clip, Mathias Genkel is in the sights of the drone operated by FPV pilot Mike Kohl, who is right up close to a wave on the Baltic Sea. Just the ticket for all wave fans. “I didn’t get many shots worthy of a film, as I was filming for the livestream and had to make sure I didn’t miss any of the action in the four-man heats. I chose the song by Ice Cube because I heard it in Fiji, and when I heard it again, it brought back some memories of the trip. Please excuse the swear words in the song if there are young children watching!”, writes Paul.

“Many would think this manoeuvre was impossible if they hadn’t seen it, but that’s not the case,” writes Miguel Chapuis after landing this forward into backloop in Tenerife.
An extremely rare jump, which its inventor, Ricardo Campello, christened the “VoltWater” in 2017 – a manoeuvre dedicated to windsurfing legend Peter Volwater, who sadly passed away in 2015.

During the Tenerife World Cup, Pauline Katz decides to put the durability of her Severne sail – and her chin strap – to the test. She finishes this cutback at 40 knots with a textbook faceplant. Fortunately, a visit to the local dentist wasn’t necessary, and the sail survived too.

Antoine Martin is, of course, well known for his “do-or-die attitude”. Antoine made the most of the ideal conditions during the Tenerife World Cup to fine-tune his double pushloop. Even though Antoine hasn’t managed to land the jump yet, this double rotation doesn’t look entirely impossible. In any case, the race is on, and it will be exciting to see who can land this trick cleanly for the first time.

The Freestyle World Cup on Fuerte was a massive hit, and even after the event has finished, a number of riders are still there, fine-tuning new tricks. Yentel Caers has his sights set on the hands-free shifty, but takes a heavy knock whilst attempting it. Apparently, though, the idea wasn’t his own, but came from the mind of Balz “Radiculo” Müller. Yentel: “Don’t listen to Radiculo! I’ve no idea how he persuaded me to try the no-hand shifty.”
