Lang and Langer: The ProAm Windsurf Cup on Lake Garda had optimal racing conditions at the weekend. After eight races each, Vincent Langer won the foiling and Marco Lang the fin slalom.

The ProAm Windsurf Cup Lake Garda marked the start of the 2025 season of the California Windsurf Cup last weekend. With 59 starters from six nations, including some PWA World Cup pros, a strong and international field of participants gathered at Lake Garda. Ideal conditions prevailed on Saturday with winds of over 25 knots in places, allowing eight races to be held in each of the foiling and fin slalom disciplines. There were no further races on Sunday due to the calm.

Despite the new record number of participants and the full fleet race with 42 registered foilers, the competition went smoothly. Fin slalom and foiling were started alternately in two independent fleets with separate rankings on a large downwind slalom course.

Exciting competitions in both disciplines

In foiling, Vincent Langer took the overall victory in this discipline with three heat wins and three second places with 8.10 points. Dutch PWA pro Bob van de Burgt followed in second place with two heat wins, three second places and one third place. He scored 10.40 points in the final standings. Austrian Daniel Riegler completed the podium with three race wins. He scored 14.10 points.

Ex-professional Marco Lang dominated the Fin Slalom. He won six of the eight races and took two second places, giving him the ideal score of 4.2 and thus victory in this discipline. Point 7 boss and Lake Garda local Andrea Cucchi took second place with two race wins and five second places. He achieved 9.4 points in the overall standings. In third place was another Austrian, Manuel Zugsbratl. He collected a total of 19.0 points.

The young German foilers were particularly impressive. Tjalve Böttger secured seventh place in the strong international field. Erik Wehkamp achieved tenth place. Nils Präger and Paul Regber also made it into the top group with their pre-Olympic iQFOiL Youth equipment despite the challenging conditions.

A continuation of the successful format at Lake Garda is firmly planned for next year. However, the next opportunity for a transnational ProAm Windsurf Cup is just a few weeks away. From 1 to 4 May, the Austrian Fin Slalom Championship will take place as part of the Lake Opening on Lake Neusiedl.
