The 2026 edition of the Cold Hawaii Youth Windsurf Wave & Slalom World Cup has been underway since 14 September. Fifty of the world’s best young windsurfers gathered at the NASA Surf Club headquarters in Klitmøller to register. The nine-day event combines wave and slalom under one roof. With wind speeds of just eight to twelve knots along the coast, the race organisers decided to hold the foiling events on the Limfjord. For the first time, the Thisted Sejlklub is serving as the base for these events. There, the foil slalom races were held across three age groups.
Dutch dominance in the Under-21s
Tycho Smits set the standard in the U21 boys’ category. The young rider from Bonaire demonstrated precise foil control at high speeds and secured first place in the opening heat. Benedikt Emser followed closely behind in second place. Diederik Leemans rounded off the podium in third place. The Danish home favourites, Elias Wallden Jespersen and Gustav Permin, put in strong performances on home waters and finished in sixth and seventh place respectively.
Max-Emil Krogh Schmidt secured a home victory for Denmark in the U17 boys’ division. The Danish athlete put in a convincing performance and claimed a well-deserved first place. Mika Henning came second. Third place was shared by Emil Thybo from Denmark and Gaspar Cascon Schwarzenlander from Austria.
The De Jong sisters lead the U21 women’s team
In the U21 girls’ event, the De Jong sisters cemented their dominance. Kit De Jong dominated the field and won the first elimination round. Her sister, Lone De Jong, finished in second place.
Weather forecast promises excitement
The weather forecast for the second day of competition predicts significantly stronger winds. The forecasts indicate wind speeds of between 14 and 32 knots for Tuesday. These conditions give the organisers two options: either wave action in the North Sea off Klitmøller or full-throttle slalom races on the Limfjord.
