Víctor Fernández is one of the most successful wave riders of his generation. With three world championship titles to his name, the Spaniard has had a career that has now lasted over 20 years - and there is no end in sight. After the event in Gran Canaria last summer, Fernández spoke to Sarah Jackson about his windsurfing career, his life away from the sport and the factors that continue to drive him after all these years. The long-standing duels with Philip Köster in Pozo and the film productions of "4 Dimensions" and "Minds Wide Open" together with Andre Paskowski play a major role. The question of a possible career end was also on the table as Fernández begins his 25th year on tour.
The three world championship titles are just one part of Fernández's success story. His achievements span a period of time that has significantly shaped the development of modern wavesailing. The Spaniard also achieved podium finishes on the PWA Tour in 2025. Fernández explained both the technical aspects of his sport and the mental strategies that help him stay motivated.
As he enters his 25th year on the tour, the question of his future plans arises. Fernández spoke about his thoughts on a possible end to his career and the factors that influence his decisions. His perspective on the younger generation of waveriders and the development of the sport rounded off the interview.
